Sacred Heart Primary School is committed to child safety. We believe all children have the right to feel safe and to be safe.

Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

Sacred Heart acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which this school is built. We commit ourselves to working in partnership with Aboriginal people for reconciliation and justice.

Good Afternoon Everyone

It is hard to believe we are nearly half way through the term.

It is great to walk around the classrooms and see all our students settled and demonstration an engagement and resilience in the learning.

Wearing our school uniform reinforces our children’s pride in their appearance and instils recognition of themselves as an integral member of the Sacred Heart Parish community. Our children are expected to dress in complete school uniform in a way that reflects a sense of pride in our school and themselves. It also maintains and enhances the positive image our school has in the local community. There are a few reminders about our expectations about our school uniform:

  • Black shoes and white socks are to be worn - runners are only to be worn when wearing our sports uniform.

  • Nail polish is not acceptable.

  • Hair ribbons to be navy or white

Well done to all our students who participated in our school swimming carnival.  A fabulous outcome for Mercy and their sports captains Fraser Nagle and Chelsea Caroll, who were the overall winners of the carnival.  It was great to see all our students giving their best and cheering each other on in the events.  I was proud of the sportsmanship modelled throughout the day.  It was also great to see parents and grandparents present with us also.  We have 27 students who qualified for the zone swimming sports in Wangaratta today.   We wish all our swimmers the best of luck and look forward to hearing the results.

Our opening school liturgy will take place Friday 4th March 10.30 am followed by a shared morning tea on the oval.

Have a great week everyone

Catholic Identity Report Newsletter

Catholic Identity News

As mentioned in our last newsletter every Tuesday and Wednesday morning we begin the day with Christian Meditation and Win the Morning Win the Day. This morning I had the pleasure of meditating with the Year 4s. We then had the chance for them to share what they are grateful for. There was, of course many and varied responses, from mum cooking breakfast, to my cosy bed and my guinea pigs. However, it was obvious that it was quite often the simple things that the children were grateful for, which was wonderful to hear.

Ash Wednesday and Lent.

Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and the first day of Lent. We will be having a whole school liturgy on Wednesday morning to commence this important time in our church year. Each family will bring home a project Compassion box and I will have information each week in our newsletter with stories about the great work achieved by Caritas and the money we raise through Project Compassion.

In week 10 we will be having a Caritas Ks week with more information to follow. I am meeting with our Year 6 leaders this Friday and I know they will have many wonderful suggestions for fundraising for Project Compassion. STAY TUNED!

Opening School Liturgy

Our Opening School Liturgy is to be held Friday MARCH 4th at 10.30 am here at school on the small oval (outside the leadership centre) and excitedly all parents and friends are welcome to join us. This celebration will be a great way to celebrate all our students and the year ahead. We will also present our Year 6 students with their Leadership badges.

We ask that parents bring a chair or rug to sit on. You are invited to stay after the liturgy and bring morning tea to share with your family.  To meet COVID 19 guidelines we ask that all our guests remain outside and not enter the school building. We are very excited to have everyone together again.  Please remember although we are celebrating our liturgy outside we ask that we are reverent and respect the sacred space.

Have a great week everyone and enjoy the magnificent weather.

2022 Sacred Heart Swimming Carnival

Who’s going to stop Mercy?! After years and years of trying to break through for a win, they’ve won a fifth total in a row. They will lose some quality Yr 6 swimmers in Fraser Nagle and Chelsea Carroll at the end of the year. Will this see the Blue team fall away next year?!
The Year Three to Year Six students had an amazing day at their recent annual Swimming Sports Carnival held at the Yarrawonga Swimming Pool on Friday 18th February.
COVID has been kind to the majority of our Yr 3-6’s the past few weeks and when Mrs. Gorman gave the go ahead, it was all systems go. The students loved the thought of having some time together away from the school and the opportunity to participate in various swimming events as well as cheer on their house teams to a possible victory. It was great to see so many parents, friends and family come down and support the students as well.
One of the toughest events on the program is always the first swim of the day. The prestigious Year 6 Iron events, was taken out by students, Fraser Nagle and Chelsea Carroll.
The day continued with students participating in 50 metre events in all four strokes followed by, some novelty events, the 25 metre events, more novelties and to finish the day, freestyle relays and the medley relays. The 30min free swim at the end of the day was a reward and a huge highlight for the students!
A high standard of swimming was on display, with some records being broken. After four years of breaking records, Fraser Nagle finished his finals swims at Sacred Heart by breaking records in two events. In the 12/13 Yr Freestyle, he swam 34.53 breaking Will Robinson’s 2010 time. In the Backstroke, Fraser swam 41.61 beating Darby Mullin’s 2018 time. Charlie Bourke broke Wally Hammon’s 10 Yr Boys Breaststroke record with a time of 56.61.
The final house results saw Mercy win. Mercy took out the 2022 Swimming Carnival with 1020 points, followed by Fatima in 2nd place with 877 points, Loreto in 3rd with 792 and Fatima in 4th place with 785 points. Mercy Captains, Fraser Nagle and Chelsea Carroll accepted the trophy with great delight and thanked all the competitors, parents and staff.
With COVID restrictions this year, we couldn’t commit to having a heap of parent helpers, so the band of staff did a great job with the extra roles. Mrs. Lawless coordinated the finish lines and assisted in choosing the Wangaratta representative squad which we were grateful for. We hope to have all parents back next year involved in assisting Mr. Carroll. Staff also gave out lots of support, took on marshalling rolls and guided the students. We thank the Yarrawonga Mulwala swimming club for the pool set up, Lauren Holgate from Lake Mulwala Bakery for the staff lunches/drinks. Lauren donated all the proceeds back and they will go towards Caritas and/or the Rosemary Cullen Foundation. We thank the lifeguards as well. A special thanks goes to all our students for creating such an enthusiastic and joyful atmosphere. Twenty-eight students went on to represent Sacred Heart at the Divisional Swimming Carnival in Wangaratta in the higher-level competition.
