Sacred Heart Primary School is committed to child safety.
We believe all children have the right to feel safe and to be safe.

Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

Sacred Heart acknowledges the traditional custodians
of the land on which this school is built.
We commit ourselves to working in partnership with
Aboriginal people for reconciliation and justice.

Lord God, help us this day to remember the sacrifice of the first ANZACs, Australian and New Zealander, and the generations of men, women and children who have died in the cause of freedom and peace. Help us to remember those who still bear the physical and mental scars and disabilities of their service. Help us to remember the widows, girlfriends, parents and orphans and all those who waited in vain for the return of a loved one. Help us to remember the mateship, agony, courage and compassion of war service. Please give us the wisdom and strength to build a better world. Amen

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you have had a restful Easter holiday with your family and friends. We were blessed to have beautiful weather - so I hope you all were able to enjoy time outdoors.

There are a couple of significant  staffing changes at Sacred Heart this term.

Mr Price, after 38 years at Sacred Heart and 40 years of teaching, has decided to hang up the boots. There has never been a dull moment when working with Pricey!  He worked on his own time schedule, things were not always completed in the most conventional manner however everything he did was out of his deep compassion and care for the Sacred Heart community of Yarrawonga. He has touched the lives of so many students, staff and families leaving us with many joyful memories.  We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Mrs Kay Zanin will also be leaving Sacred Heart at the
end of this week.  Kay has been a learning support teacher for the past 14 years and has been a wonderful support to staff and students. Kay was also a regular part of our admin team - helping to ensure the day to day running of the school happened seamlessly.  Her presence at school will be missed.  We wish Kay the best of luck at her new job at GoTafe.

Thank you to all our students who participated in the  ANZAC day commemorative march and laying of the wreath in Mulwala, Yarrawonga and Tungamah. Every year the ceremony gets bigger and I believe it is a wonderful opportunity for our children to learn about our history and to appreciate that we are very lucky to be living in a peaceful country.

Our Learning Conversations will take place in week 3. We are glad  we can finally return to face to face meetings.  Parents will be able to book appointments via PAM later in the week.

 Have a wonderful week

Catholic Identity News

Flood Donation
This week we have sent money to Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School in East Lismore and to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Woodburn. The generosity of our school community has been amazing with both schools receiving $2149.65 each. We are very grateful to the P and F for donating all the Easter Egg proceeds to our Flood Appeal as well as all families who supported the St Patrick’s Day fundraiser and or purchased a raffle ticket.  I was told about the plight of these schools through Tony and Helen Hunter. Some of you would remember Tony as principal of Sacred Heart approx. 10 years ago and Helen was a teacher at Sacred Heart College. They are both working in the Lismore Diocese and saw first, hand the devastation. Both these Northern NSW schools have a long road ahead but I’m sure this money will be well received and well spent. Once again, many thanks for your generosity.

Holy Week Liturgy
This Friday at 10 am the whole school will be involved in a liturgy for Holy Week. (Postponed from last term) The important events of Holy week will be presented in word and song. The Liturgy will be held on the basketball court and all parents and families are invited to join us. Everyone is welcome to stay for morning tea. Please bring a chair or rug and if staying for morning tea bring something to share with your family.

Mother’s Day Liturgy and Caritas Ks.
Friday May 6th we will be celebrating our Mum’s and the important women in our lives with a liturgy. This will be held in combination with Caritas Ks which is a fundraiser for Project Compassion. We will commence with a liturgy on the basketball court at 1 pm followed by a shared lunch and then we will commence the Caritas Ks part of the day.
Project Compassion raises money for various communities around the world. The belief of Caritas is, to help make people and communities, self-sufficient. The money raised through Project Compassion goes to communities across the world including to people like Janice. (see below).
From 2pm till 3pm we as a school community along with our guests will continuously walk around the oval. The idea is as we walk, we experience a little of what some people have to walk everyday just to get fresh water or to attend school or work. We ask for a note donation from each family. This will be collected on the day.
Children can wear their sports uniform.
Liturgy on Basketball Court 1pm (please bring own chairs/ rugs to sit on.)
Shared Lunch 1.30-2.00 (please bring lunch to share)
Caritas Ks around oval 2.00-3.00
We hope many of you can join us as we celebrate the wonderful women in our lives as well as raising money to help many women and their families across the world.

Reconciliation
As mentioned last Newsletter we are very hopeful to have Confirmation Eucharist early Term 3 and Reconciliation early term 4. As soon as I can confirm dates, I will let you know.
Please keep Father Steve in your prayers.

Introducing The Resilience Project – Parent and Carer Hub

Throughout 2022, Sacred Heart Primary School will be
working closely with The Resilience Project
to support the wellbeing of our school community.

Students will participate in weekly lessons on
Wellbeing Wednesday’s.

The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience.

Our Partnership Program consists of online presentations (including digital presentations) for our parent and carer community via the Parent & Carer Hub.

We are pleased to share the Parent & Carer Hub with you.

The videos are 5-10 minutes long and will walk through the key pillars of resilience: Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness.
You’ll hear stories and be introduced to activities to show how these strategies can support our kids' learning and development, and also support you as parents and carers.

This program is an important part of our school’s effort to look after the mental health of our community.
