Dear Parents and carers

To all our mothers and female figures in our lives I hope you had a wonderful day on Sunday .

Thank you to everyone who attended our liturgy on Friday and participated in our Caritas Km.  It was great to have families back on school grounds and to see the students' excitement in having you here.
A message from Bishop Shane advising of Father Steve’s health.

“Steve has now asked me to advise you that after weeks of various tests it has been discovered that he has a cancerous tumor on the bowel (the transverse colon), which will require surgery in the coming weeks – hopefully before the end of May. The surgery will require around a week in the Goulburn Valley Hospital at Shepparton and then time to recuperate with family in Melbourne. He appreciates all the support he has received, especially the help given by Fr Mick Morley who has filled in at Yarrawonga over the past couple of months.”

Steve is optimistic about what he faces and expects to be back in action by the middle of the year. He would appreciate your prayerful support.”

Thank you to all families who have participated in our learning conversations.  These conversations are an important part of our reporting process and provide you the opportunity to contribute to the conversation.

We have seen a small spike in students testing positive for COVID.  It is important that we continue to test twice weekly rather than when students do not feel well.  In the event your child tests negative for COVID but  feels unwell please keep them at home.  These measures need to be in place to protect our whole school community.

Just a reminder students can be dropped off at school from 8.30am  onwards.  There are a number of students arriving at school as early as 8am.  Teachers who are at school use this time for planning and preparation, not supervising .

Have a great week everyone,

Arn

CATHOLIC IDENTITY REPORT

Sacraments
As you would have read in Arn’s report we will be without Father Steve for a while longer yet. However, he is very hopeful about being ready to go early next term, so we are moving forward with our plans for Confirmation Eucharist (sometime Term 3).
Today all families in Year 4 will receive an email about Confirmation Eucharist. Your child will also bring home a red note which is an enrolment for the Sacraments. All children need to return this note whether they are making the sacraments or not. I ask this is done by next Wednesday. Any family in Year 5 and 6 who are new, to the school this year and would like to make the sacraments please contact me asap and I will forward you all the information. Those students in Year 5 and 6 who were to make their Sacraments previously do not need to enrol again.

Mother’s Day Catholic Schools Week and Caritas K’s.
Last Friday we celebrated Mother’s Day, Catholic Schools Week and participated in Caritas K’s. Three great events on our school calendar, that sit perfectly together.
We gathered with many of our mums, grandparents and those who fill the role of our mums on the basketball court. There was a chilly wind blowing but we soon warmed everyone up with our opening hymn “Every Move I Make”.
Our liturgy, presented by our Year 6 leaders praised Mary, Jesus’ Mother, how wonderful our own mothers are and the important role women, such as Catherine McAuley and Mary Mackillop played in the development of Catholic Education and where we are today.
6M presented the gospel in Freeze Frame form and we listened as our Year 6 leaders asked for God’s blessing on all the important people in our life.
Our Preps told us that our mums show us their love in many ways and sang “These Hands.”
Finally, we finished with an all-time favourite song of our Mums, My Lighthouse.
After our beautiful liturgy we had a shared lunch with our special guests.
Then the fun really began. This was the first time in two years that we had been able to hold our Caritas Ks and the children, (not so much the Mothers) were very excited. We walked and walked around our oval, lap after lap until it was bell time.
For so many reasons it was a great day and just wonderful having our parents, families and special guests onsite to help us pray, sing and honour our Mums, celebrate Catholic Schools Week as well as raising money for Project Compassion. We are still finalising our fundraising but are already amazed by our school community’s generosity again.
Thank you to everyone who could join us for this special celebration.

Mother’s Day Parish Mass
Last weekend we had a number of children attend mass and present the Mums with a card made by our Year 3 students, a poem and a flower. We thank Benji, Tom and Olivia who attended Saturday evening and Claire, Elsie and Rosie who attended Sunday morning. It was greatly appreciated by Father Michael and the many mum’s present. Thanks also to our Year 3 teachers and children for the great job they did on the cards.
Have a great week everyone,

Our Fun Run/Cross Country is coming up soon. It will be held on Thursday 26th May. Students will bus down to Chinaman's Island at different times of the day.  A cupcake and fruit drink deal will be available for families.
Detailed information, running times, cupcake/drink deal and permission will be sent out via P.A.M in the next day or two.

The students have been fortunate to have Greg Duns, local tennis coach join them in PE lessons to learn and play tennis. Introducing The Resilience Project – Parent and Carer Hub

Throughout 2022, Sacred Heart Primary School will be
working closely with The Resilience Project
to support the wellbeing of our school community.

Students will participate in weekly lessons on
Wellbeing Wednesday’s.

Gratitude is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise this by noticing the positives that exist around us.

Research shows that practicing gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world for what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

This program is an important part of our school’s effort to look after the mental health of our community.

YMCA After School Program
  • Our Autumn holiday program was a great success with the program reaching capacity on many days. So keep an eye out for the release of the Winter program. It will be a case of get in quick
  • This term we will be looking at the symbols in Aboriginal art and how they tell a story, and having sketching classes (which have been requested).
During the holidays we had so much happening, here is a brief snap shot....
We enjoyed a visit to Cactus Country.  We had a visit by local water ski champion Ryan Burns who used to attend Yarrawonga College and was winner of the Moomba Masters Night Jump, and many other events. We also used broken hula hoops as weaving frames, we made bread, coasters, face masks and played shops.
