PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

We had a wonderful day on Friday celebrating our fabulous grandparents. It was wonderful to have families moving around our learning spaces and engaging with the students and staff.  Thank you

I hope you are all surviving these very chilly mornings!!!!!   It’s great to see most of our children arriving at school on time each morning so they can get themselves organised and be ready for the day ahead. A smooth start to the day ensures the children are given every opportunity to participate fully in their learning.  Please ensure your child/ren is at school before 8.50am. It is interesting to note that even arriving 10 minutes late each day adds up to 50 minutes a week which is equivalent to one and a half weeks of valuable learning time each year.  We have also had a number of children arrive very early, often before teachers arrive. It is not OK to have students arriving at school at 8am.

Learning conversations will be taking place in week 6.  These conversations are a wonderful opportunity to sit with your child's teacher to discuss  their achievements and challenges and establish learning goals for the remainder of the semester.  We know that positive, supportive relationships between students, parents and school have a very positive impact on your child.  Information will be sent out next week in regards to dates and times.

Have a great week.

Don’t forget school closure day next Monday 1st August.

Catholic Identity Report

Grandparents Day.
Yesterday July 26th was the Feast of St Anne and St Joachim, the parents of Mary and therefore the Grandparents of Jesus. While we do not know a lot about Jesus’ grandparents, we do know that Mary was chosen to be the Mother of the Son of God, therefore she was a very special woman and her parents Anne and Joachim must have been wonderful role models for her. We celebrated this feast day and all Grandparents with a liturgy last Friday and what a great celebration it was.  Our Year Six leaders did a superb job as they led the celebration and all children joined in enthusiastically with our singing. Well done also to Year Three who presented our gospel in Liquid picture form. It was wonderful to have so many grandparents and special visitors join us for our liturgy and then come back to school to have a walk around the classrooms.
It was quite delightful to see the excited reaction of the children as they saw their grandparents.

Catholic Social Teaching
Next Wednesday afternoon all staff will be participating in a staff meeting after school, on Catholic Social Teaching presented by David Walker from the Catholic Education Office Sandhurst. Catholic Social Teaching, commonly abbreviated CST, is an area of Catholic doctrine concerning matters of human dignity and the common good in society. The ideas address Human Dignity, Common Good, Solidarity, Subsidiarity, Preferential Option for the Poor, Care for Creation, and Participation.

Fr Michael and Uganda
Thank you to all the families who donated sewing goods for Fr Michael to take to Uganda with him as he visits the Smiling Minds Centre.

Have a great week everyone,

LIONS CLUB PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETION
Every year the Lions Club runs a public speaking competition for schools in the community. The Lions Club nominates a specific topic and students write a speech on that given topic. This year, the Grade 3/4 topic was 'A place I'd like to visit outside Victoria'. Last Sunday, Georgie represented the Grade 3/4s with a wonderful speech about Italy- it was fantastico!
The grade 5/6 division topic was 'A person that lived in the nineteenth century'. Spencer delivered an excellent 4 minute speech on Winston Churchill. The grade 5/6 students also had to complete a second round given 10 minutes to come up with a 1 minute speech , which this year was about the topic 'Remote Learning'
Both students did our school proud and Spencer has progressed through to regional level, which will be held in early August. Well done Georgie and Spencer!

NEWS FROM THE Y - AFTER SCHOOL CARE

The pupil free day is not far away, Bookings area available for this day.
See poster included in this newsletter entry.

The children have been enjoying doing random acts of kindness for their friends, teachers and others around the school. Teachers, Canteen ladies. Office staff and children have been finding little notes of appreciation.

Over the last two weeks the children have been filling out “All About me” documents. So we have been including many of their suggestions as part of our program.

Last week: we played “Heads down thumbs up”, “Duck, duck goose”, did Sonic activities, made a Dinosaur diorama and ate Hot dogs.
Next Week: we will make pizza muffins and toasties, look at different types of pets, do Harry Potter activities, and make a space diorama.
