Principals Report

Dear Parents

Today we celebrate the Feast of All Souls’ Day. It is a day to commemorate and pray for the souls of baptised Christians who have died. It is also called “ The Commemoration of All the Faithful departed” or “Day of the Dead.” On this day we commemorate all the faithful departed - our friends, relatives, parishioners and community members. We remember and pray for the souls of the people, and we also pray that we may one day join Christ and all the saints in heaven.

Please keep our Grade 4, 5 and 6 students in your thoughts and prayers as they enter their final week of preparation for the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Many of our students have been looking forward to this celebration for over two years. The ceremonies will be held on Saturday night at 6pm and Sunday morning at 10am at the MPB. Bishop Shane will be the chief celebrant at both ceremonies.

Our Grade 5 students headed off today for their first camp at Campaspe Downs Adventure Camp. Although cold, we were very excited the sun was shining as they headed off this morning. I look forward to hearing of all their adventures on Friday. Please keep your eyes on Facebook as we will post photos of the students in action as they come through.

Today our preps for 2023 will be taking part in the first of four transition days. This is a very exciting time for our new students and their families. A big thanks to the foundation staff and Mrs Sharon Powell for the enormous amount of work they put in to prepare for these days.

There have been a few staff changes for 2023 and I am sad to say Mr Dan Bolton will be leaving Sacred Heart at the end of the year. Dan has been an integral part of our Sacred Heart Community over the past 11 years and will be sincerely missed by everyone. Dan, Kim, Tilly and Henry are moving to Bendigo to be closer to family. We will have time to officially farewell Dan later in the term.

Mrs Alison Stacey has also decided to take twelve months leave starting at the end of this term. Alison is looking to pursue other interests and have some time out with her mum and family. We look forward to Al’s return in 2024.

Catholic Identity Report

Confirmation Eucharist
Finally our big celebrations have arrived. We have 71 students making the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist over two ceremonies in the MPB, Saturday evening 6pm and Sunday morning at 10am. We are very excited to have Bishop Shane Mackinlay join us for the celebrations and this will be his first visit to Yarrawonga as Bishop so it is quite an honour for our children. A note with final details will be emailed to families involved on Friday.
If there are any children across the school who would like to join the choir for either of the ceremonies they are very welcome to join us. Please email me or let the office know if your child is able to attend. They may be dropped off five minutes before the Mass and picked up approx 80 mins later. It is a great way to support their peers so I encourage all our children to get involved.

NEWS FROM THE Y

THE ART SHOW
This term: our big project for term 4 will be an “ART SHOW” during the last week of term. Monday 12th – Thursday 15th of December
The children are loving the idea and many are working on art pieces for the show.
We already have more than 50 pieces of art for the show complete. More information on the show will follow. You may see posters up around the school. Invitations will go out to classes, families and school staff

SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM
This Summer the school holiday program will run from the 3rd of January until the 25th of January
The program will be on display on the Mercy Centre door/window this week
And bookings are open through the My Family Lounge APP
The full program will be included in the next newsletter entry

Children will need to wear their Hats and sunscreen again at afterschool care.

Last week: Art show creations, hand sewing, weaving, table tennis, completing homework, basketball, down ball and soccer.
Next Week: we will have activities based on individual child’s choices.
We will continue this for the term so every child has a turn of choice of the day.
