Principals Report

Dear Parents
It was wonderful to have so many families join us on Friday, gathering in the sunshine (yes no rain!!!!!) for our Athletics sports day.  The students gave their all running, jumping, and twisting through various obstacles to the cheering and chanting from all our sports teams.  A big congratulations to  Mercy team and their sports captains , Chelsea Caroll and Fraser Nagle, for being the overall champions  on the day.  A big thank you to Mr Dean Carroll for organising the event.

I would also like to express my thanks to our grade 6 students for leading our Remembrance day prayer service.  Their preparation ensured our service reflected respect and dignity towards all those that died or suffered in all wars or armed conflict.

This year Sacred Heart  will be holding our transition day on the 6th December for grades F to Grade 5.  This is earlier than the Statewide transition date held on the 13th December.  Our current grade 6 students will attend transition on the 13th December. It is not usual practice to have two differing transition dates  however we did not think it was in the best interest of our students to have transition on the last week of term. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this please feel free to contact me.

It has been a very wet Spring and with more rain forecast, it’s important to stay on guard against increased mosquito numbers. We would recommend applying insect repellent on your child each morning and perhaps wearing long shirts/pants.

We are currently in the process of assigning students to class groupings for 2023. When deciding on classes, our teachers consider academic achievement levels, children who work well together and children who are better to be separated, learning needs, behaviour, social and emotional needs.  This process takes a lot of time, care, compassion, thought and trust.  It is not vital for your child to be in the same class as his/her best friend.  It is vital to be in a class with the best interest of your child in mind.  It is very difficult to move children around once classes have been set.  It is not possible to move one child as this inevitably affects that of another.  I thank you for your understanding of this matter.

On Tuesday 6th December we will be holding a Christmas picnic from 5pm to 7.00pm.  We will have a nativity display in the library, sausage sizzle and lots of other goodies available.   More details will follow.  Please put this date in your diary.

Have a great week everyone

Catholic Identity Report

Confirmation First Eucharist
Congratulations to our 71 children who received the sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist the weekend before last. The children were very excited and were a credit to their families and sponsors and teachers as they participated reverently in the two ceremonies.
It was fantastic that Bishop Shane,  Fr Henry  and Fr Michael could celebrate with us and they were very impressed with the children and their engagement.
It was great to have so many staff join us, as well as children from across Prep to Year 6 who joined the choir and supported their class mates. Over the next weeks I will be emailing photos of the children taken on the night. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the weekend.

Choir
The children who were part of the choir at either or both ceremonies will be enjoying a pizza lunch next Tuesday 22nd of November so they not need lunch on that day.

Have a great week  everyone,

YEAR 6 CANBERRA CAMP

In Week 2 our Year 6 students and staff had a very busy, but fantastic, week in Canberra. After spending last term learning about the Australian Parliamentary System we were all really excited and looking forward to our trip. While in Canberra we undertook an educational tour of the national capital. We had the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy. Visits to Parliament House, Old Parliament House, the Australian Electoral Commission and the War Memorial gave us an opportunity to see Parliament in action, building on the work we had done in the lead up to our camp. We were extremely lucky to meet the Federal Member for Nichols, Sam Birrell, who talked to the children about his role and responsibilities as well as showed his support for the building of our Multi-Sports stadium. The children also visited the National Zoo & Aquarium, The Royal Australian Mint, the National Museum of Australia and the AIS. Night time activities included Laser Tag, Flip Out and Questacon. A huge thank you to Mrs Ramsdale, Mrs Stiles and Mr Griffin for accompanying us to Canberra. We'd also like to thank Fallons Bus Lines and our drivers Barry and Siti for all their support, driving and generosity with our students this week. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed $30 per student, under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program, to lower the cost of our camp to families. We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support of this program.
Mercy wins the 2022 Athletics Carnival
After a couple of years of COVID cancellations, our Sacred Heart Primary Athletics Carnival was held last Friday 11th November on the school oval. The students had already completed the throwing, jumping and rotational events during Term Three. We weren’t sure what the weather would bring but the cooler conditions and overcast skies didn’t stop the morning events from going ahead. It was great to see the many parents, families and friends join us at our school to see the children participate in sprints and relays. The rotational activities (P-2) and field events (3-6) were held during PE classes in Term 3.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the smiles on the faces of the students across different parts of the day. A fall here or there, a close win or a close loss, being resilient, being a team player, singing, helping out the teachers, enjoying recess with loved ones or supporting the younger students were just a few examples from our Athletics Day. Another highlight was the Remembrance Day Ceremony led by our Yr 6 leaders and Mrs. Gorman. All in attendance stood in silence, paying respect to the ceremony being held.
Mercy (Blue) were the winners on the day by one solitary point! With so many points for competing on offer, it came right down to the wire between Mercy and Loreto (Gold). Mercy and Loreto were followed closely by Fatima (Red) in 3rd and Lourdes (Green) in 4th.
The final results were as follows:
1st- Mercy (Blue) 266 points
2nd- Loreto (Gold) 265 points
3rd- Fatima (Red) 257 points
4th- Lourdes (Green) 244 points
Mercy captains, Fraser Nagle & Chelsea Carroll were presented with the winning shield after lunch and thanked everyone in their speeches.
A big thank you to Robyn Connell for doing all the scoring for the day. It’s much appreciated. We thank Warwick Henderson for his assistance with the line marking and Mr. Wheaton and the SH College for a loan of their speaker system.
The children are to be congratulated on their efforts, good spirit and support of each other on the day.
