Principals Report

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the 2023 school year.

It has been lovely to hear the familiar sounds of our students in our corridors and observe how quickly they have settled and engaged in their learning.  The new school year always brings feelings of nervousness and anticipation.  As principal and someone who has many ‘first days’ back I always feel a great sense of gratitude and privilege in being part of the excitement the first day of the new school year brings. I extend a warm welcome to our 46 foundation students, 10 new students in other classes and new staff:  Mrs Bec Bridgeman, Mrs Madonna Flannagan and Mrs Danni Blick.  I would also like to extend a big thank you to all our staff who have spent much time over the past two weeks ensuring our learning spaces were inviting and ready for the students' return.

We encourage your involvement in your child’s learning at Sacred Heart. Together we can create an effective learning environment in a climate of mutual respect. There are many ways you can help your child at school. Some of these ways are:

  • Attending school and parish liturgies.

  • Establish regular contact with your child’s teacher.

  • Read to your child and listen to your child read.

  • Encourage your child to take increasing responsibility for his/her learning and organisational skills.

  • Encourage healthy eating, sufficient sleep and regular exercise.

Drop off and Pick up times are very busy  and it is really important they are managed safely.  Please do not block the roundabout.  This not only disrupts the flow of traffic for others but plays havoc on school buses. Your children are supervised and will be taken care of until you arrive.

Take Care Everyone

Catholic Identity News

Welcome back to a new year at Sacred Heart Primary. It has been great to see all the smiling faces and the joy in our children’s faces.
We began Christian Meditation  this morning for the year and will continue to meditate as a whole school every Tuesday and Wednesday morning. It is a very special way to begin our morning. We will also continue to Win the Morning, Win the Day as we think about something we are grateful for and a way we can be the best part of someone else’s day! Win the Morning , Win the Day is the brainchild of Ben Crowe from the Mojo Crew who was also Ash Barty’s mindset coach. His thought of starting the day with a positive mindset will influence our whole day in a positive way , links perfectly with our Catholic Identity as well as the  Three B’s and the Resilience Project .

Opening Liturgy
We will be celebrating our Beginning of the Year Liturgy on Friday February 17th in the Multi Purpose Building (MPB) at Sacred Heart College at 10am.This will be a special celebration and a great way to welcome our preps and all new families to our community. More information will be forthcoming.

Sacraments
At this stage the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist will be celebrated in Term 3 and Reconciliation will be Term 2.

This year I am working every Tuesday and Wednesday as well as every second Thursday. Please note this is a change from previous years. Please feel free to contact me any time via my email
mmcinness001@shyarrawonga.catholic.edu.au or by ringing the school.

Tom Bruce has been raising awareness for the Heart Foundation
In Nov 2019 Tom had open heart surgery to repair a VSD and to build a wall between the top atrial chambers in his heart. These are septal defects he was born with which heavily affect the efficiency of the heart beat and its delivery of oxygen. Unfortunately it was untreated and  has led to some irreversible damage to the heart. He is very open to talking about it and decided he wanted to help raise funds for the Heartkids this year - we usually do RCH appeal.
Heart Kids is a foundation raising funds to support Aussie kids who live with CHD - Congenital heart diseases. The money raised from selling the Valentines cards goes directly to supporting 3,000 families who have been impacted by childhood heart diseases.
As well as Tom selling the cards ($10 per Card) there is a barcode on the side of the box for anyone to make a donation.
Yarrawonga Bunnings and Tim Roadley have also got onboard. They are selling cards and bracelets and on Sunday the 12th feb they are holding a sweethearts themed DIY day which tom will be present at.
