Principals Report

Good afternoon Parents and Carers

I hope you all have the chance to pop into our Meet and Greet this afternoon. It is a wonderful opportunity for old and new parents to come together, meet staff and see your child/rens learning space.  We look forward to seeing you.

Unfortunately we have to reschedule our Opening school liturgy due to a power outage.  Our liturgy will now take place on Friday 24th February at 10am, with our Grade 6 leaders also being commissioned. All families are warmly invited to join us for this special occasion. ‘Let the Words You Speak Always be Full of Grace’, is our theme this year and comes from Colossians 4:6. It is drawn from a longer piece of scripture that encourages each of us to walk with wisdom and courage and to speak with truth, being mindful that words have the power to break or connect communities. To choose to use kind words and speak with grace in our daily interactions is a theme that is very accessible for our children to understand and act upon.

In good fortune our ‘Welcome to the school year function’ has not been disrupted at the Yarrawonga Yacht Club. The last couple of years have been very challenging in providing opportunities for us to gather as a community and it is our hope that many of us can gather , connect and enjoy getting to know each other, on this evening.

Have a great week everyone

Opening Liturgy
Yesterday after being informed of a power outage Friday and the very high temperatures predicted for that day we have moved our Opening Liturgy to the following Friday. The Liturgy will be held at the MPB at Sacred Heart College at 10 am on Friday 24th Feb. We apologise for any inconvenience  and hope to see everyone on the 24th.

Ash Wednesday
We will be commemorating Ash Wednesday as a school community next Wednesday. All children will participate and receive ashes.

Class Prayer
As part of their Religion lessons in the first week of school each class  and in some cases as a year level wrote a class prayer. The children have written some very reflective and meaningful prayers and I will share one with you each newsletter. Our first prayer is from Year 6. All the prayers are on display in our foyer if you have a chance to look at them today at the Meet and Greet or at another time.

Have a great week,

Meegan McInness
Catholic Identity Leader.
Just a reminder for children using the Pedestrian Crossing with Lisa, you must walk across. Pushing either bikes or scooters, not riding them across.
Also, cars are not permitted to park across the pedestrian crossing when dropping children off to school.

If your child is unwell

In Victoria, primary schools have a responsibility under the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 to exclude certain children for periods as specified in the regulations. There is also a responsibility to follow any direction to exclude a child that is made by the Chief Health Officer. If our school has a sick child, we must:

  • ensure that unwell children do not attend your school, as per national guidelines (Staying healthy: preventing infectious diseases in early childhood education and care services, 5th edition)
  • isolate children who became unwell during the day from other children and send the unwell child home as soon as possible
  • exclude the unwell child
See also the guidelines for diarrhoea / gastro
Diarrhoeal illness

 Exclude until there has not been vomiting or a loose bowel motion for 24 hours

Just a little reminder to keep a regular look out for headlice

At Sacred Heart Primary we support the right of all members of the school community to access safe and inclusive learning environments, including digital and online spaces.
The following outlines the School’s roles and responsibilities in supporting safe digital learning, as well as the expected behaviours we have of our students when using digital or online spaces.

At our School we:
  • Have a Student Behaviour Policy that outlines our School’s values and expected standards of student conduct, including consequences for breaching the standards. This Policy extends to online conduct;
  • Have programs in place to educate our students to be safe and responsible users of digital technologies including PBIS;
  • Provide information about digital access issues such as online privacy, intellectual property and copyright;
  • Supervise and support students using digital technologies for school-directed learning;
At school we have:
  • discussed ways to be a safe, responsible and ethical user of digital technologies.
  • asked students to present their ideas around the ways they can be a smart, safe, responsible and ethical user of digital technologies.
Our school supports parents and caregivers to understand safe and responsible use of digital technologies and the strategies that can be implemented at home.
We recommend that devices are only used in a shared place in the house - not bedrooms.

Parents are advised to supervise their children’s internet use and regularly check what websites they are visiting including viewing recent histories.

News from the Y Team

What a great start to the new year. The children have quickly settled back into the routine of aftercare.
The excitement this week was a collection of new toys to interact with. The “Maze Robots” were definitely a favourite. We also received a dolls house full of furniture with dolls and some electronic cash registers for all the shops that they love to create.
We have welcomed new children to our program from Prep and they have quickly adjusted to our routine with the help of the older children acting as buddies.
As part of our current “Quality Improvement Plan” we are working on helping the children develop life skills. Such as learning to hand sew, handling money in shop play, taking on roles of responsibility and introducing items of technology to reflect our modern age.
Many Comfort Hearts have been created: to carry in your pocket, and ready to squeeze if you need a little extra support dealing with something.
