Principals Report

Dear Parents and Carers

During Lent, we are encouraged to spend some time looking into our own lives to see the direction we are taking. One way we can focus less on ourselves and show compassion for others is through the Lenten appeal, Project Compassion.  Project Compassion brings schools, parishes and families together to raise funds for people living in the most vulnerable communities across the world. As Lent progresses, it provides a wonderful opportunity to lead our children to a better understanding of compassion and how they can promote justice and alleviate poverty in their world. There are Project Compassion boxes in each classroom and we encourage children to bring along a donation in support of this appeal.

Could I please ask parents to be mindful that the school day begins at 8.50. School attendance is vitally important to your child’s learning and those few minutes missed add up to considerable loss of learning time. Arriving on time, ensuring appointments are made outside school hours and not leaving before the end of the day allows your child to be fully engaged in the learning program. Each day at Sacred Heart, we attempt to provide a calm learning environment with minimal interruptions to everyone.

Learning Conversations will take place from 3.30 pm -5.30pm from the 3rd,4th and 5th April .  These conversations are a vital part of each child’s learning and an opportunity to establish positive relationships between school and families.Booking will be available on PAM from Thursday 16th March and will close on Friday 31st  March at 3pm. Please make sure you book a time with your child/children’s teacher.

Don't forget to come to our term 1 gathering at the Yarrawonga Yacht Club on Friday 24th March.

Take care  Everyone

Holy Week Liturgy and Caritas Ks
On the last day of term Thursday, April 6th we will hold a Holy Week Liturgy, Sausage sizzle lunch and then Caritas Ks.
The Liturgy will begin at 11.30 on the basketball court followed by lunch and then Caritas Ks. Parents and friends are welcome to join us for all or part of the activities. Please bring your own chair to the liturgy.
Caritas Ks is an initiative of Caritas Australia.
The students will walk in their colour house team around the perimeter of the school, over a period of 70 mins, taking it in turns to carry buckets of water.
Every day, thousands of women and children around the world need to cover many kilometres each day to fetch water, obtain food, get to school or market, or simply to survive.
By participating in Caritas Ks we provide the opportunity for our students to walk in the shoes of these women and children and others less fortunate while raising money for Caritas Australia. We are asking for a note donation per family or a gold coin donation per child and this money will be collected on the last day of term. Please feel free to hand in the contents of your Project Compassion Box as your donation.
With the support of Year 6 Justice team leaders Maisie and Kiandra and their team Eliot, Lachlan, Ted, Milla, Taj, Kai, Harry, Poppy and Jackson a great day will be had while supporting a very worthy cause.
Christian Meditation
We as a school community meditate every Tuesday and Wednesday morning, straight after the bell. The children sit on the floor, legs crossed and for five minutes after an introductory prayer the whole school meditates. When we meditate we use the mantra MARANATHA which means “Come Lord Jesus”. We silently repeat this word over and over in our minds to help us stay on track. We are very proud of how our students engage in meditation and believe we are all reaping the benefits of this five minutes of contemplative prayer and stillness. If anyone would like to know more about Christian meditation please contact me at school and I also have a number of books on the topic to share.
To help us all succeed with our Meditation we ask that any students who are late getting to school on a Tuesday or Wednesday enter through the front office so they don’t disturb those meditating.
