 Principals Report

Good Afternoon families

During Lent, we are encouraged to spend some time looking into our own lives to see the direction we are taking. One way we can focus less on ourselves and show compassion for others is through the Lenten appeal, Project Compassion.  Project Compassion brings schools, parishes and families together to raise funds for people living in the most vulnerable communities across the world. As Lent progresses, it provides a wonderful opportunity to lead our children to a better understanding of compassion and how they can promote justice and alleviate poverty in their world. There are Project Compassion boxes in each classroom and we encourage children to bring along a donation in support of this appeal.

This week we welcome back Mrs Heather Keenan after a long absence due to a shoulder injury. We are so happy to have her back in the fold.  I would like to express my thanks to Mrs Sharon Powell for all extra duties she has taken on during this time.  We could not have survived this without Shaz.

Could I please ask parents to be mindful that the school day begins at 8.50. School attendance is vitally important to your child’s learning and those few minutes missed add up to considerable loss of learning time. Arriving on time, ensuring appointments are made outside school hours and not leaving before the end of the day allows your child to be fully engaged in the learning program. Each day at Sacred Heart, we attempt to provide a calm learning environment with minimal interruptions to everyone.

Learning Conversations will take place next week.  These conversations are a vital part of each child’s learning and an opportunity to establish positive relationships between school and families. Please make sure you have booked  a time with your child/children’s teacher.

Ben and I will be away next week at a leadership Conference.

Have a great week,

Arn
Catholic Identity
Our Justice team has organised a St Patrick’s Day fundraiser for Project Compassion. We are encouraging everyone to wear green on Friday for a gold coin donation, to celebrate this Saint and raise money for a good cause. The students can wear green from head to toe or just a touch of green …. We encourage everyone to get involved to support Project Compassion and Caritas Australia.
Have a great week,

Swimming at Sacred Heart 2024
Sacred Heart Primary School Swimming Carnival 2024

“Take your marks, get set, nring, nring” To start off the 2024 Sacred Heart Swimming Carnival the Year 6 boys dive onto their boogie boards. All the other kids from the range of years threes to sixes cheering the house colour on with a big smile on their faces. At the 50 metre mark, Tom Hicks hit the wall first and then Charlie Bourke took it on from there. Charlie ended up with a big lead, and this time he was the one to hit the wall first. The same thing happened with the girls, Summer New was taking the lead, Zarlee Carroll in second, Sophie Archibald coming up close, Elzah Smith not far behind. Soon that would change. Sophie Archibald first place with 75 metres to go. And that’s how it stayed. Charlie Bourke and Sophie Archibald, The 2024 Iron Man/women champions.

Soon after, the preps-2 came down, playing games and having fun. This was the first swimming carnival where they were allowed to come. There was a lot of people that weren't 50 metre swimmers, but they had a lot of other things to do. Like the novelty events, they were very fun. Earning house points was one of the best bits. Mr  O'Dwyer did little challenges, testing their listening skills. Lourdes was always first to react, that must have made a difference because they WON! Amelie Coll and Elliot Tresize said a few words, thanking everyone. The biggest, well deserved thank you went out to Mr O’Dwyer, for organizing the whole swimming carnival. He was on the microphone, all throughout the day.
The moment everyone has been waiting for… the awards. Year 3 encouragement award goes to Aricha Bouphasavanah. Next we have the Year 4 encouragement award and that goes to Tilly Lawless. Year 5 encouragement award goes to Cam Wallace. Last and certainly not least Year 6 encouragement award goes to Emma Atwood. Great job to all those people now let's get on to the age champions. The Under 11 Girls goes to Amelie Coll and the Under 11 boys goes to Flynn Cox. The Under 12 Girls goes to Sophie Archibald, and the Under 12 Boys goes to Charlie Bourke.
