Dear Families,

We are back  - well nearly all back.  The junior school has filled our corridors with chatter and laughter  - and we all look forward to our middle and senior students returning over the next couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and understanding with a staggered return to school.

Unfortunately we have had to cancel our school camps and excursions for this term however we hope with further lifting of restrictions later in the term will allow us to engage in different local and school activities as a whole school community.

As communicated last term we are currently undergoing a Strategic Planning process, to define and set the goals and priorities for  the next five years and the strategies by which this will be achieved. I would be very grateful ( if you have not already!) to complete the parent survey.

Sacraments
Disappointingly we will be unable to hold the Confirmation Eucharist ceremony this Friday. At this stage I am unable to set a new date however we are very keen for the students to make their sacraments this year. This possibly means it will not be our usual ceremony but take another format. The situation is also similar for our Reconciliation candidates.
We appreciate your understanding with this situation. We will keep you informed as the situation changes. Please keep all the candidates and their families in your prayers.
Christian Meditation
We began our day with whole school Christian meditation this morning. It was a wonderful way to begin our day and the children were amazing in the way they slipped back into the routine.

Odd Socks Day

Friday 8 October 2021

What is Odd Socks Day?

Odd Socks Day is a fun day that raises awareness for
Mental Illness.

Reducing the stigma of mental ill-health and
raising awareness of this serious issue,
while having some fun,
is what Odd Socks Day is all about!

We want to see everyone openly discuss mental ill-health issues, just as you would with a physical injury or any other health issue.

We invite our students both onsite and those learning remotely, to join with our staff and wear ODD SOCKS THIS FRIDAY.

Pull on your Odd Socks

and STOMP OUT

the stigma of Mental Illness.

PBIS FOCUS

Be the Best Version of You!

This is our whole school PBIS focus for Term 4.
On our first day back the Preps were able to capture what this means to them beautifully. T
he Preps - Year 2s also enjoyed catching up with their friends and they all enjoyed a Zooper Dooper on their return. We all look forward to seeing the Year 3-6s joining us next week where they too will get a zooper dooper and enjoy seeing each other again!

MINDFULNESS

This term we are encouraging ALL our students to start journaling from Prep - Year 6. Each student and teacher will be given a personal book to journal in either daily or weekly.

Journaling evokes mindfulness. It presents an opportunity for emotional release and helps the brain regulate emotions. Self-regulation is a skill that children need to be taught and practiced. The trick is not to avoid hard situations. Instead, we can all support our kids through tough situations. Allowing time for our students to journal will be an opportunity for them to develop a greater sense of confidence and self-identity. It also gives students time to organise their thoughts and prepare responses, which may give them the extra confidence they need to participate in classroom discussions. Journaling is also a way for teachers to learn more about their students and how they are feeling.

Alternative Play - is to kick off again this term.

We have a number of activities on offer at lunchtimes ie Rough & Tumble, Chess, Library, Lego, Mindfulness Colouring and gardening or singing. If your child is unsure when things are on please encourage your child to ask their teacher if they can join in. The more the merrier!

Hat’s are Compulsory for Term 4.

We are a Sunsmart School. We encourage ALL children to have a school wide brim hat by the end of this week. Please make sure they are clearly labelled with your child’s name. We encourage parents to pop sunscreen on their child prior to coming to school each day. Remember - No hat, no play, no fun today!

AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS ZOOM SESSION

What a great way to celebrate
the last week of Term 3.
Grades 4 & 5 participated in a fun dance session with the girls from The Australian School of Performing Arts,
while Grade 6 girls laughed their way through an Öodie themed Dance Party.

Last term, the Foundation and Grade 1/2 children were encouraged to enter a music colouring competition for fun during remote learning.
Here are some well deserved winners.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club
has been lucky enough to be chosen to feature in a Woolworths Big Bash Cricket promotional video.

This means that you may see yourself on TV, on the big screen during breaks in the cricket at any of the cricket grounds around Australia as well as any other places where Woolworths Big Bash Cricket is advertised and promoted.

How cool is that!!

What we need you to do -

We need you dressed in your Big Bash T-Shirt and hat and come down to Vic Park this Saturday the 9th of October at 9:45am for you to be filmed in the activities that will be set up for you.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and one not to be missed.

Will I still get one of our famous icy-poles I hear you ask when I attend? Yes, you sure will!!

So gather up all of your Big Bash mates and we'll see you down at Vic Park this Saturday morning at 9:45am.

A big thank you to Woolworths for sponsoring this important cricketing program.
Go Lakers,
Al Mitchell
