Principals Report
Dear parents and Carers
Winter is certainly upon us!!!!! Unfortunately the cold weather makes us more susceptible to colds, flu and respiratory illnesses. We are indoors more often allowing these viruses to pass more easily to one another. Please if your child is feeling sick please keep them at home. I understand ongoing absences are challenging for families however it is essential for the health and wellbeing of our schools community. Indicators of cold and flu include: coughing, sneezing, headaches, lethargy, congestions, aches and pains.
Our Scholastic Book Fair opened on Monday and has been an instant hit with our students throughout the school. Besides various genres of books for different ages, the Book Fair also has some cute and funky stationery for sale.
Did you know that the more books that our students purchase, the more free books we get as a school? Your support of this literary event is key in helping us obtain new books and resources for our library collection and classrooms. More books means more choice, which means our students get to read the books they want to read. The right book can ignite a passion for reading, so we encourage families to work together to create a reading culture at home. Reading expands the mind and nourishes the imagination.
To further celebrate our Book Fair we would like to invite all our families to be a part of our Reader's Workshop Learning Walk this Friday. We will discuss Sacred Heart's reading philosophy and tips and tricks on how you can support your child/ren with their reading at home. We will also take everyone on a learning walk through the school. This is a great opportunity to see the new Reader's Workshop in action and finish at the Book Fair so you can have an opportunity to look at the books on offer. If you would like to join us, we will be meeting in the staffroom at 10:00am. If you have any more questions, please call the office.
Semester one Reports will be available on PAM next week. It has been a pleasure reading the reports and seeing the learning and many achievements that have taken place over the first half of the year. Well done to the students for all their efforts. Parents you should be very proud! Thank you to the teachers for the time spent ensuring each report provided personal, valuable feedback. Please take the time to read and reflect on the report together with your child as this is an integral part of their development as a learner. Learning Conversations will take place Week 2, Term 3 but if you wish to discuss anything prior to that, please contact your child’s teacher.
Congratulations to all our students who made us very proud through their participation in our school cross country event. It was also terrific to see so many parents in the yard and at Chinamen’s Island cheering the students on.
Congratulations also to our ‘Courage’ team who attended the Reconciliation Mass in Nathalia. Unfortunately we have to postpone our Fire Carriers Commissioning at Boat Rock to a later date due to wet weather.
Finally it is with sadness I inform you all Ms Emma Kerr will be taking leave until the end of the year, at the commencement of term 3. I would like to thank Emma for all her dedication and hard work and look forward to working with her again in the future.
Enjoy the long weekend
Take Care
