A PRAYER FOR THE END OF TERM

We thank you Lord, for this term. For the challenges, the successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt. Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends. Guide us to be peacemakers in our family, and to always be conscious of you in our lives. Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun. Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term. Amen

Dear Parents and Carers

On Friday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. This special Feast Day reminds us of Christ’s great love for us all. The heart is the centre of a person, the place from where choices are made, choices which affect those around them. No matter who Jesus met, the poor, sick, or troubled, he always showed a great love and compassion towards them. As a Sacred Heart community, we strive to be more like Jesus, loving those we meet every day.  It means showing tolerance, forgiving, sharing what we have with those who don’t and  helping others when they need it most.

As of term 3, Ms Emma Kerr will be taking leave until the end of the 2023 school year. The grade 3 classes have been restructured into two class groupings for the remainder of the year.

It is with joy and sadness that I inform you, Mrs Christine Cussen, after 50 years of dedication to Catholic Education has decided it is the right time for her to retire.  Christine has been an integral part of the Sacred Heart school community for over 27 years and during this time she has been a wonderful educator in all areas of the curriculum. However it is her love and passion for the Arts, in particular music, that Christine has left her special mark on our school community. School choirs at Masses, Sacraments and Woods Point Aged Care, Christmas concerts, Parades, and Carols on the Lawn will not be the same without her! ( to name only a few events!)

As I reflect on Christine's legacy, it is impossible to overlook her role in leading the FIRE carrier program. Her dedication in promoting the reconciliation of our first nations people has not only fostered understanding and empathy in our students  but has also paved the way for a more inclusive future. Christine has always been a caring and kind staff member, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her boundless energy and enthusiasm has made her a joy to work with and be with. On behalf of the entire Sacred Heart Yarrawonga community, we are  so very grateful for the commitment and dedication you have  given to our school community . You will be sincerely missed.

We will have the opportunity to celebrate Christine’s retirement as a community later in term 3 and 4. ( In between her numerous travel adventures:)

I wish you all a wonderful term break.

Sacred Heart Day
This  Friday June 23rd we will be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart with a combined Mass with Sacred Heart College.  Bishop Shane Mackinlay is celebrating our Feast Day for us.  As it is also the celebration of 60 years of Catholic Education at the College and the opening of their new building, we will be joined by many special guests. This is always a special day on our calendar and you are all welcome to join us for this celebration. Mass will be held at 10am in the MPB. Students must be in full school uniform please. I encourage you to rug up as the MPB is not known for its warmth. As part of our Feast Day we will be presenting the Catherine McAuley Award to one of our Year Six students.
The Catherine McAuley Award  (Christian Citizen)
For always displaying our Mercy Values of compassion, respect, hospitality, justice, courage and Service,
We hope many of you can be a part of this special Mass.
As part of our feast day celebrations we will be having a sausage for lunch at the College and then returning back to school for pack up and Sacred Heart Has Got Talent.  Please pack regular recess and maybe extra lunch if one sausage is not enough for your child.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart talks to the compassionate side of Jesus. Therefore we will be making a donation to the St Vinnie’s Winter Appeal. Students are asked to bring a gold coin on this Friday as part of our donation.

Any questions please feel free to contact me here at school or via email.
As we enter holidays, I wish everyone a restful and safe holiday and look forward to working with you all again next term.

Can you believe it? Week 9 already! Only a few days until school holidays again.
The children have been enjoying our Woolworths farm Lego. We had 2 collections donated to us from families, and collected to 2 bags worth ourselves. It was great fun opening it all, adding the stickers and of course playing with it.
We have planned for the upcoming school holidays: to include the movies, and a visit Kidstown adventure playground. Bookings are going well, and some days are booked out. We also have a waiting list on one day. We do still have spaces available on most days.
We will also be operating on Monday 24th July as a Curriculum day (full day program)
Our new Project is following up on the children’s interest in “The Guinness World Records” We are creating our own “Guinness OSHC Records”. The children have made a list of many records they would like to set. The first one is “Dead Fish” game. The current record holder is Matilda Kennedy at 17 minutes and 13 seconds.
