Principals Report

We are looking forward to welcoming our grandparents to Sacred Heart on Friday to celebrate and give thanks for the wonderful gift they are.  Grandparents play an important role in the family story of our children. They have given them the gift of life and continue to give them the gift of love. We invite all our grandparents, great grandparents or special friends to come to our 10am liturgy at the MPB and then visit our beautiful school. Pope Francis reminds us “Grandparents are a treasure in the family, please take care of them and love them”. We thank God for the gift of grandparents and ask that we are always thankful for all that they are and all that they do for us.

Thank you to all parents who attended Parent Teacher Interviews last week. Parent Teacher interviews are formal opportunities to discuss your child’s growth and development. Please know, if at any time during the school year you would like to discuss your child’s learning or social & emotional development, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher.

This Year Book Week will be celebrated between 28th to 31st August (Week 8).
There will be more information in the coming weeks, however feel free to start working on costumes for our book week parade on Thursday 31st August.

Take care
Arn

Grandparents Day
Just a reminder we will be celebrating our Grandparents and the Feast of St Anne and Joachim with a liturgy on Friday July 28th at 10 am in the MPB. We hope many of you can join us for this liturgy celebrating these very special people.  Following the liturgy, you are welcome back to school for Morning Tea and then the classrooms will be open 11.30-12.30 for everyone to wander round and see the children at work.
Please rug up as the MPB can be a cold space on these winter mornings.

The Sacraments
This year our students in Year Three can make the Sacrament of Reconciliation and our Year Four students will make their first Reconciliation and Confirmation/ First Eucharist. Reconciliation will take place in Term 3 and Confirmation/ First Eucharist in Term 4. These two sacraments, along with baptism are known as Sacraments of Initiation. When you chose baptism for your child, it was the first step of becoming a member of God’s family and these two sacraments continue this special journey.
Just a reminder if you haven’t already let me know your intentions for your child, please fill in the google form sent out last week or email me directly at
mmcinness001@shyarrawonga.catholic.edu.au
If I haven’t received a response by Friday 3.30 I will assume your child will not be making the Sacraments.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Friday,

Meegan McInness (Catholic Identity Leader) mmcinness001@shyarrawonga.catholic.edu.au

News from the Y
Our Yarning Circle: We have completed writing our own “Acknowledgment of Country”
With the help of many children in our service providing wording to be included, and drawing the background.
Our group discussion highlighted the need to include:
The Yorta Yorta and the Bangerang people
Traditional custodians
Respect
Culture
The land we are on
We also have a new art work by local Yorta Yorta woman Holly McLennan-Brown.
Some of this week’s activities: Poetry writing, introducing a micro scope, and getting in some practice for the school athletics.
We have begun taking some more activities outside when the winter sun is out. We set up an outdoor table with chairs in a sunny spot for drawing, and a great space to sit and chat with friends.
We also take out our nature table for the children to explore.
Next week we will explore what sustainability practices are.
But we are not just about learning: there is plenty of time for fun and games with friends, making new friends, developing their social and communication skills and following their own interests.
