We believe all children have the right to feel safe and to be safe.

Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

Sacred Heart acknowledges the traditional custodians
of the land on which this school is built.
We commit ourselves to working in partnership with
Aboriginal people for reconciliation and justice.

St Mary, you valued the dignity of those forgotten by society and responded with Gospel boldness to the injustices of your time.  Inspired by your witness, may we to ‘take fresh courage’ and live the mission of Jesus Christ in your word and deed today.

St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, pray for us

Principals Report

Good Afternoon Everyone

It is hard to believe we are halfway through the term!

It was wonderful to have so many grandparents, special friends and families join us for Grandparents day.  It was a wonderful celebration and a true reflection of your  importance in our school community.

Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, our first Australian saint and we give thanks for this extraordinary woman. Mary MacKillop was an educator, a pioneer and a leader, someone who had compassion for others regardless of their situation. Strengthened by her belief in the value of education as the foundation for a fulfilling life, Mary’s motto was ‘never see a need without doing something about it’.  Mary’s legacy of helping all people in need, so we create more connected, stronger communities is so important today and calls us all to follow her beautiful example. Through our Graduate Outcomes all at Sacred Heart aspire to grow more like this wonderful Australian saint each and every day.

Congratulations to our Foundation student who celebrated 100th day of learning last Friday. (Photo)  The students looked amazing in their costumes as well as our staff.  A special thank you to their teachers for their guidance and the enriching and engaging learning they have provided over the past 100 days and the fun activities they organised to celebrate this milestone.

Don’t forget this Year Book Week parade  will take place on Thursday 31st August (Week 8).

We have a pupil free day on Friday 25th August.  We will be working with Matt Knight who will be leading us in developing and enhancing our whole school writing curriculum.

Take care
Arn

Feast of Mary Mackillop
Yesterday we commemorated the Feast of Mary Mackillop the first and only Australian saint. She was a woman of great conviction, and her legacy continues today through the work of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Our Christian Meditation yesterday morning focussed on her work and all she did for the poor and uneducated in Australia. Our focus of “Win the Morning, Win the Day” was also centred on how we could be more like Mary Mackillop. Some amazing work has been completed in our Religion lessons this week on this famous Australian woman.

Sacraments
I am in the process of setting dates for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. For those families who have indicated their preference for their child to take part an email will be forthcoming later this week.

CHURCH MAINTENANCE: Fr. Vijay would like the Sacred Heart Pastoral Council to form a sub committee for church maintenance and surrounds and are asking for volunteers to be part of the committee. (There is no mowing involved). If you are interested please contact James Cummins on 0427 439 784 or one of the Sacred Heart Pastoral Council members.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone,

News from the Y
Tuesday 15 th August: we have a special visitor: Sam Birrell our local MP will be visiting us. The children will prepare some questions for him and talk about issues they see in the world around them. (this will not be about political parties etc)
Rubbish Warriors: Some of the children have been collecting rubbish around the school yard on a regular basis. They now have a name and badges to wear. We have been working with the Prep classes in promoting the 4 R’s: Renew, Recycle, Reuse and Repurposing. There is also my favourite an extra one Repair
Our Yarning Circle: We have been discovering the many uses of the boomerang, and how many ways aborigines use fire. Including sustainability.
Some of this week’s activities: Book writing, shadow play, learning to write in new fonts, cubby houses, and how to make a five pointed star with one cut of the scissors. Friday is our smallest group. We have named it Science Fridays: we have been using a traditional micro scope to take a closer look at things. This week we will get to explore a digital microscope. We will also do a magic flower experiment.
We have been enjoying the late winter sun and taking some more activities outside. We set up an outdoor table with chairs in a sunny spot for drawing, and a great space to sit and chat with friends.
Next school holiday planning is well under way. We have 2 excursions and 3 incursions this time.
More info to follow shortly.
