Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

Sacred Heart acknowledges the traditional custodians
of the land on which this school is built.
We commit ourselves to working in partnership with
Aboriginal people for reconciliation and justice.

The Funeral for Fr Steve Bohan will be held next Thursday, August 31st at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, Yarrawonga. Fr Joe Taylor will be conducting the funeral, with Bishop Shane present. Following the funeral Fr Steve will be laid to rest in the Yarrawonga Cemetery. Yesterday staff and students remembered Fr Steve and the  wonderful impact he has had on all our lives with prayers and a song. Staff  from both schools then gathered  after school in Sacred Heart church to stop, reflect and pray on Fr Steve's legacy. He will be sadly missed by all.

Principals Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Yet another busy week and many wonderful learning experiences for our students.  Keep up the great work everyone!  There’s more fun to come over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately we did not get to play our teachers vs Grade 6 students soccer match on Tuesday but our students looked amazing in their green and gold!   Our soccer match will happen before the end of term

Next week we celebrate Book Week with the theme of “Read, Grow, Inspire”.  Thank you to Mrs Boyer, Ms Fountain & Mrs Leary  or the planning and organisation for Book Week. This is a great opportunity to promote the importance of reading at school and at home, and recognise the enjoyment that comes from reading a good book.   Classes will engage  in various Book Week activities throughout the week and we will have a special Book Week Parade on Friday

Last Monday our students from Years Five and Six joined our parish community at the 9.30am Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. I would like to thank all our students for the respectful way they participated in the Mass. A number of parishioners and Father Michael spoke to me after the Mass, to convey how impressed they were with the Sacred Heart students.

Going to school each day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day - missing school puts them behind. Please ensure your child is at school prior to 8:45 am. If your child is absent from school for any reason, it is vital that you notify the school prior to 9am, along with the reason for the absence. Attendances and absences are recorded by the Department of Education, so it is very important that these records are maintained correctly. Please notify the school through the Absence Notification on PAM.  SMS messages will be sent to parents to advise of any unexplained absences. Should you receive one of these please contact the school as soon as possible.

Our school uniform reinforces our children's pride in their appearance and instils recognition of themselves as an integral member of our school community. Being part of Sacred Heart means wearing our school uniform correctly.

A few reminders about our expectations about our school uniform:

  • Black shoes and white socks are to be worn

  • No jewellery should be worn to school, (small plain studs/sleepers for ears and watches are permitted).

  • Tracksuit pants worn on sports day need to be Navy Blue

  • Hats to be worn everyday

Take care
Arn

Please note that our BOOK WEEK PARADE is now on

Sacrament of Reconciliation
All the students in Year 3 and 4 whose parents indicated they
would be making the Sacrament of Reconciliation should
have received an email from me with the date of the
ceremony. If you haven’t received an email and you should
have, please contact me ASAP.
For all the daytime ceremonies the candidates are to wear
full school uniform (not sport). A photo will be taken by the
school and will be emailed home. Please keep all our
candidates in our thoughts and prayers.
Rosie Cullen Foundation and the Green and Gold Day
Thank you to everyone who supported our Green and Gold
Day on Tuesday. It was wonderful seeing the sea of Green
and Gold. We are still counting the funds raised for the Rosie
Cullen Foundation and will let you know asap.
Unfortunately……... or fortunately the Staff vs Students
soccer game was postponed due to wet weather.
Well done to our Justice Leaders and their team on a great
day.
Take care everyone,

Meegan McInness
Due to safety reasons staff are unable to heat students lunches in the school microwaves. It is also not suitable to add boiling water to noodle cups. Please send lunches in a thermos if your children require hot meals.
Please remind children when using the crossing, bikes and scooters need to be walked across, not ridden.
Congratulations to Sacred Heart College

News from the Y
On Tuesday 15th August we welcomed Sam Birrell our local MP to our Y and OSHC space For a “OSHC Q and A”
We started with our Acknowledgment of country. Written by the children. The children had come up with some great issues they wanted to discuss.
Sally: Yarrawonga needs more bloom trees, flowers and landscaped shared spaces. Charlette A: wanted to talk about inflation rates, and the cost of and availability of housing in Yarrawonga also the need for an off leash dog park. Odette: Is worried about all the litter that gets into the rivers and goes out to sea and hurts the sea animals
Other Issues: state of the country and town roads; the local hospital needs an upgrade; the number of women in Parliament; recycling: paper verses plastic; floods that may affect us.
We gave Sam: a copy of our acknowledgment of country, a copy of our littering poster, and a Daisy plant to represent how important the environment is to us.
For a follow up: As some of the issues of concern were local, we thought we may approach the local council to get someone out to join us for a OSHC Q and A
Rubbish Warriors: We went to the school assembly and presented our new “Do not litter” posters to the school.
Some of the children have been collecting rubbish around the school yard on a regular basis. We will be putting these posters up where classes eat their lunch as reminders about where the rubbish should go.
Some of this week’s activities include: balloon squishes, bracelet making, making the Italian flag with hand prints and OSHC world record attempts. On Thursday we will focus on science, focusing on- sink and float, followed by strength of shape.

Friday 25th August (SHPS PUPIL FREE DAY) 7am – 6pm
Some activities for the day will include; make a display of flowers, game of cricket, Make a bird in a nest craft, Wattle water colour painting, Strawberries dipped in dark chocolate, plain oval biscuits iced to look like speckled eggs, cartwheels and handstands
