Principals Report

Good Afternoon Parents and Carers

We have had a challenging time in losing our much loved Parish Priest father Steve Bohan.  Last week we were able to be part of his funeral mass celebration highlighting our love and gratitude for his presence and active contribution to our parish and beyond.   As expressed by James Cummins in the Parish Bulletin :

On Thursday was such a beautiful tribute as we said farewell to him, and will remain in our memories for a very long time. There are so many parishioners who made a physical contribution to the preparation of the Mass, including Sacristans, those who prepared the Multi Purpose Building, the Choir and Organist, those who swept and cleaned and polished and made the Church ready for Fr. Steve’s celebration. And beyond all of that, the parishioners who worked so hard in bringing cakes and slices to the footy club which was where Fr. Steve wanted to have his “Wake.” He loved the Pigeons home and supported all those involved there. Our Parish Committee is very grateful to all those parishioners who were involved, and we can be grateful and proud of the whole celebration. A special note of thanks and congratulations to College students and the Primary school kids for forming guards of honour at the Church, and along Woods Road. The dignity of your tribute in the cold wind as you waited for the cortege to pass by, was a lovely way to say goodbye to Fr. Steve. James Cummins - Chairman Parish Committee.

A huge thank you to Casey Parker and her team of mums who volunteered to create a wonderful Father's Day stall!  Your efforts not only provide our students with fantastic gifts to purchase  but model to our students the importance of males in their lives, whether it's a dad, uncle, brother, grandfather, or friend. Your dedication to making this event special is truly appreciated.

We invite all family members to attend our athletic sports this Friday.  Starting time is 9.30am Please join us to cheer on our students and house team.  Canteen will also be open with their delicious treats and snacks.

This year our Father's Day breakfast has now become our annual ‘Sacred Heart Family Breakfast’ taking place next Thursday (14th September). This is a great way to strengthen our community  emphasising and modelling  the importance of togetherness to our students. The fact that it coincides with R U OK day adds an extra layer of significance,  highlighting the importance of caring for one another's well-being. It's a fantastic opportunity for all members of the school community to come together, share a meal, and foster a culture of care and support. These events help promote a sense of belonging and fun. We look forward to seeing you there.  Please make sure you fill in the Google form below regarding numbers of family members attending to assist with catering.

It has been brought to my attention students have increasing issues with social media occurring outside of school however directly impacting their social lives at school. It is important  to be aware that social media apps like Snapchat, Instagram, and even kids' messengers are not appropriate for students under the age of 13.  Regardless if the App is on a parent or cares phone or device you have no control of content that can be shared with your child.

As we come to the end of term three I thank you all for your continued support of our school.

Take Care
Arn

Season Of Creation
This week we begin the Season of Creation. A month in our year when the church celebrates our world and creatures and encourages us to care for it. This initiative of Pope Francis fits in well with us caring for our environment and our Common Home. For great information

Due to safety reasons staff are unable to heat students lunches in the school microwaves. It is also not suitable to add boiling water to noodle cups. Please send lunches in a thermos if your children require hot meals.
Please remind children when using the crossing, bikes and scooters need to be walked across, not ridden.

We had a fabulous excursion to Boat Rock Savernake on Thursday 24th August. The FIRE Carrier’s in Grade 5/6 had an immersion ‘On Country’, listening to Yorta Yorta Elders, Dr Treahna Hamm and Michael Chisholm share their stories and culture. We learnt about the importance of this waterhole to the local aboriginal tribes and explored the surrounding area. This years FIRE Carriers( Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) were commissioned on this ancient ceremonial grounds, supported by last years candidates.  It was a very moving ceremony. Listening  to each candidates reasons as to why they wanted to be a FIRE Carrier, were very inspiring. We will highlight some of these in future newsletters. Local Residents Denis Miles and Ann Sloan along shared their insights of the area and showed us indigenous artefacts that were used by local aborigines in their daily lives. Dr Treahna Hamm then guided us in a wonderful art activity reflecting in the day learnings and understandings.  These amazing young leaders in indigenous education will be the voice for change for the future. As a school community we are very proud of their contribution to reconciliation. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Thank you to Mrs Christine Cussen and Marley Fountain who led this excursion on the day.

Being a FIRE Carrier is to promote respect, fairness and the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As Courage leader, I would like to promote respect, fairness and inclusion to ALL people in our community.

Respect, a word not used or done enough, but everyone should be respected, no matter what race, colour or beliefs you may have and for all people to be treated the same.

I take a lot of pride in being given the opportunity to be a FIRE Carrier as it symbolises Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. As a Courage Leader, I hope to work with the school community tome sure everyone is fine, and that everyone is treated the same because skin colour should not define who we are.  by Tom Conway

We'd like to thank everyone who attended our Dad's Night on Friday. It was a fun night and a great opportunity for dads to reconnect with each other and meet new people.
We raised over $1000 for Beyond Blue, thanks to everyone who donated.
A big thank you to Nick Dykes for helping organise the night, Matt Knight and the Yarrawonga Cricket Club for letting us use their clubrooms and Craig Kelly and Woolworths for the very generous donation of food for the night and prizes.
