PRAYER FOR THE BEGINNING OF A NEW TERM

Almighty God We give you our school. We give you all the teachers and staff who work here, We give you all the children who learn here. We pray our school will continue to be a place of great discovery, adventure and creativity. May it be a place where we love to learn and where we learn to love, A place where everyone is respected and all are deeply valued. We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Good Afternoon Parents and Carers

Welcome back to Term 4. It was lovely to see everyone back at school ready for a very productive term ahead. This is a particularly special time for our Year 6s who begin their last term of primary school.

To ensure that your child can be the best they can be with their learning, could I please remind parents to make every effort to schedule appointments out of school hours and be sure your child arrives at school before the bell each day. Being at school, on time each day is the best possible way you can assist your child to be a successful learner. Please contact either myself or your child’s teacher if you are having any concerns with school attendance so we are able to support you where possible.

Yesterday our final  group of students celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation .  I would like to express my thanks to Grade 3 & 4, staff, Meegan Mcinness and Father Michael for the preparation of our students.  Thank you also to all our families for your support  and presence at the celebrations. Our Sacrament of Eucharist and Confirmation will take place Friday 27th of October.

This Friday we will celebrate Odd Sock day. Each year GROW organises a day Australia-wide to raise awareness of the serious issue of mental health.

All of us experience odd days, and that’s okay; the odd socks stand in for those odd days. We encourage all of our school community to wear odd socks on Friday 6th October.

Best wishes to our Year 6 class and staff who are heading off to Canberra on October 17th- 19th. So much planning and preparation has gone into this camp and I know it will be a wonderful learning experience for all involved.

Next week I will be on long service leave until October 25th.  In my absence, if you need anything please contact Mr Ben Griffin.

Take care everyone
Arn

Odd Socks Day Friday 6th October 2023
What is Odd Socks Day?

Each year GROW organises a day Australia-wide to raise awareness of the serious issue of mental health.

All of us experience odd days, and that’s okay; the odd socks stand in for those odd days.

We hope the community will join us and have a little fun along the way!

We encourage everyone to wear odd socks this Friday and start a conversation about mental health.

We should talk openly and freely about mental health issues, just as we would with any other physical injury or health problem.

When we wear odd socks, we as a community are helping GROW raise awareness of mental health issues, and together, we are also helping to stamp out the stigma around mental ill-health.

Loreto wins the Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival
Our annual Sacred Heart Primary Athletics Carnival was held last term on the school oval. The students in Years 3-6 had already completed their throwing, jumping and rotational events during PE classes this term. The rotational Athletics activities for P-2 were also held during the term. It was great to see many parents, guardians, families and friends join us at our school to see the children participate in sprints and relays.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the smiles on the faces of students across different parts of the day. A fall here or there, a close win or a close loss, being resilient, being a team player, singing, helping out the teachers, enjoying recess with loved ones or supporting the younger students were just a few examples from our Athletics Day.
Loreto (Gold) took the mantle from Mercy (Blue) this year after going down last year by one solitary point! Mercy, 2nd and Lourdes 3rd (Green) were only separated by 0.03 of a point. Fatima (Red) finished in 4th position. The scores are averaged out by the number of competitors participating on the day and field/rotational events during the term.
The final results were as follows:
1st- Loreto (Gold) 268.79 points.
2nd- Mercy (Blue) 257.83 points.
3rd- Lourdes (Green) 257.80 points
4th- Fatima (Red) 250.94 points
Loreto captains, Billie-Jo Buerckner & Mitchell Smith were presented with the winning shield and thanked everyone in their speeches.
A big thank you to all the staff and Yr 6 leaders for their help, support and assistance during and after the carnival. It’s much appreciated. We thank Warwick Henderson for his assistance with the line marking and Mr. Wheaton and the SH College for a loan of their speaker system.
The children are to be congratulated on their efforts, good spirit and support of each other on the day. Great stuff
