Principals Report

Dear Parents

Lent begins today and classes 4-6 went to Mass and received the Ashes on their forehead and our junior school participated in a special liturgy in the Mercy centre.  This is the season in our church calendar  preparing us for Easter when Jesus died and rose again, showing His great love for us. We use this season to do little things that help us to grow closer to God. We also use this time to support Caritas and the wonderful work they do making our world a more just place for all.
It was wonderful to see so many families at our Shrove Tuesday breakfast.  These mornings are wonderful opportunities for us to gather together as they strengthen our connections with each other and provide opportunities for our students to showcase our fabulous school to you.
It will be great to see as many parents as possible at our swimming sports on Thursday 22nd Feb.  This year our junior students will also be participating in the carnival which is very exciting.
As you may have noticed our building project is nearing completion.  We are hoping to have moved in by mid March.  Our building consists of 5 learning spaces ( Grade 5s will move into this space), a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Lab  and a Music / Language studio.
Carpark
Parents , if you are using the pick up zone at the end of the day,  students will only be able to enter your car at the red bollards.  Please do not coach your child to jump in the car before the red bollards.  Our carpark is extremely busy and we want to avoid  at all costs putting our students in dangerous situations.  We also ask you to remind your children when leaving school  they must use the school crossings.

Have a great week everyone
Arn

Catholic Identity
What a busy start we have had to our year. Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Lent is a time for renewal through prayer, fasting and giving, as we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at Easter – the most important feast in the Church’s calendar.
Lent provides us with an opportunity to consider how we might help those in need, rather than thinking about ourselves.
Our Year 5 and 6 children will be attending Mass at midday and our Year1 -4 students will participate in a liturgy here at school.
Part of that process in our Project Compassion Campaign. The focus this year is “For All Future Generations”. Project Compassion is a branch of Caritas Australia. Caritas is the Catholic Church's international aid and development agency in Australia. They are committed to working alongside the most vulnerable and addressing the imbalance of power by including the people affected in the decisions impacting their lives. These include
some of our own indigenous communities as well as communities torn apart by drought, cyclones, earthquakes, floods and war across Turkey, Syria, Morocco, Libya, Ukraine, Gaza and may other countries.
Each family will receive a Project Compassion box this week. We are asked to go without so others can benefit. This idea will be explored in class during Lent. We will also include some information each newsletter about the great work of Caritas.
Our newly appointed Justice Team are planning on some ways to raise money as a school community so stay tuned. Shrove Tuesday Breakfast
Thanks to all the families who joined us yesterday morning for our Meet and Greet Shrove Tuesday Breakfast. It was great to launch the year eating pancakes. Donuts and sausages!

News from the Y

Welcome all back for another year of learning, fun and games with the Y.
Our program goes from strength to strength: with over 20 new enrolments this year so far. All the new children are settling in well and we continue to use the buddy system until they get their confidence in our space.
Our term project is looking at Tracking animals using satellite tracking. The children are amazed that they can see where the animal is right now. This week we have been learning about the rough toothed dolphin.
Next week the children voted on looking at a penguin. Every day we look to see where our dolphin Sam is in the world. And how far he has travelled. We discovered yesterday that Sam lives off the coast of America.
The children have completed “All about me” documents, and have been writing down activities they would like to be included in the program. So the year is well and truly underway.
Favourite activities of the week: Kinetic sand and dressing up parades
Reminder: Hats are a must have item at aftercare. Children without hats will be limited to playing in the undercover area. Many children leave their hats in their classroom, so a spare old hat kept in their bags would be fine for our program.
