Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

Sacred Heart acknowledges the traditional custodians
of the land on which this school is built.
We commit ourselves to working in partnership with
Aboriginal people for reconciliation and justice.

Heavenly Father,
As I enter another week of my Lenten journey, guide me to the path that leads to you.  Fill my heart with gratitude, patience, strength, and peace as I strive to become the-best-version-of-myself, honestly admitting my shortcomings and sins.  Stay with me through the busy days this week and remind me that when I need comfort, solitude, wisdom, or guidance, I can always turn to you.

Help me develop discipline and generosity through fasting and almsgiving, and come closer to you through prayer this Lent. In your name I pray,

 Amen.

Dear Parents

It's hard to believe we are halfway through the term. Students are settled, working hard and having fun.

Our Opening School Mass  will take place this  Friday, March 1st at 10am.  All families are  invited to join us for this special occasion, as we acknowledge and celebrate our Catholic Learning Community.  The theme for our Diocese; ‘Behold, I make all things new!’ is an exciting theme reminding us, our Loving God is keen for us to experience the joy of new things - time and time again, always and forever.

This is our first official celebration as a school community with our new Parish Priest. Father Jun Jun. We are very excited to give him a warm welcome into our school community. School leaders and our new foundation students will also be welcomed and presented at Mass.  Unfortunately this year our Opening Mass coincides with our zone swimming sports that many of  our students have done an amazing job to qualify for.  Leaders  who are not present at Mass will be presented with their badge at a special school assembly taking place on Monday 4th March at 2.30pm on the basketball courts. We would love families to be in attendance.

It's Easter Raffle time again! Each year we hold an Easter raffle with all proceeds going to Caritas. Caritas is a Catholic International Relief Organisation with a mission to build a better world for the poor and oppressed. This year each classroom will have a themed laundry hamper.  We ask families, in this grade level, to donate an item to place in the hamper.

Raffle tickets will be sent home next week.  The raffle will be drawn at our Holy Thursday liturgy, March 28 at a time to be confirmed. Thank you to Robyn Connell and team for your help and support.

It was great to see many families at our swimming sports last Thursday.  We are grateful for your understanding that in extreme hot weather we have to continually make modifications to our program to ensure the wellness and safety of our students.

Have a great week,
Arn

Second Sunday of Lent  24 & 25 February

Ronita is 22. She lives with her husband and two children in a barangay (local district) in Quezon City, which is situated in Metro Manila in the Philippines.
Ronita left school when she became pregnant as a teenager. This could have had a life-long impact on her ability to find work and provide for her family but, thankfully, she heard about the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program run by the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ), Caritas Australia’s local partners in the Philippines.
Through the FCJ, Ronita was able to re-enrol in her studies and continue learning in a safe and flexible environment – even with the arrival of her second child.
After completing her ALS classes, Ronita went on to earn her Grade 12 Senior High School Diploma. With her new diploma, Ronita has now secured a job at a call centre and is looking to a brighter future for her whole family.
“I have now graduated senior school and I am so proud of myself,” she said. “I feel hopeful for the future… Now it’s not impossible for me to achieve my dream… Thank you.”
Please donate to Project Compassion.
Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow for all future generations.
You can donate through Project Compassion donation boxes and envelopes available from your parish, by visiting caritas.org.au/project-compassion or by calling 1800 024 413.

News from the Y
Our term project is looking at Tracking animals using satellite tracking. The children are amazed that they can see where the animal is right now. From the rough toothed dolphin. This week they have expanded their animals to include: 1 gorilla, 1 elephant, 1 turtle, 1 hammerhead shark, 1 scalloped head shark, 1penguin, 1 spotted dolphin, and 1 rough toothed dolphin. So the interest is still strong in the project.
Favourite activities of the week: we have made our own Kinetic sand and created a list of items the children want added to the dress ups.
Pupil Free day was lots of fun with 17 children making slime, and putty. We also did a few science experiments and watched a movie.
Sad Farewell: Our lovely fish Jeff, has outgrown his tank and has had to be relocated. He was over 15cmlong. So this week we are cleaning and resetting the tank ready for two new fish next week. Then we will all vote on new names for them. I will keep you posted on what they are.
Reminder: Hats are a must have item at aftercare. Children without hats will be limited to playing in the undercover area. Many children leave their hats in their classroom, so a spare old hat kept in their bags would be fine for our program.
If your child requires a specific type of sunscreen can you make sure they have it in their bags or supply one to keep at the service.
